First of all: GREAT PRODUCT!

We have been using ProvideSupport.com in the past. It's not bad at all and quite similar. However, we did not like the fact, that it is hosted and that we needed to depend on the response times of their host. At times it was quite slow which slowed down the build-up of our page considerably. This is a knock-out criteria which is why we went looking for something else in the first place. The fact that LiveZilla can be installed on our own host is perfect. Please never change that.

Now to the feature request:
I can see that the host name resolution does not work at all times. This is an important piece of information which works really well in providesupport.com and where we can pretty much nail down which company is surfing our site in many instances. Any chance to improve this? Would be great.

Other than that: Keep up the good work. We would also be happy to donate something to you. A good product must be appreciated.

Best
Andrew

Hello Andrew,

Thank you for that, we try to do our really best here.

I am not sure if I can help you with that. We use the standard DNS-Resolution functionality of .NET / Windows. I don't know if there's a way to increase the failure rate but I will investigate and let you know if there's something we can improve.

Derek,
Thanks for being so responsive.

This is one area where providesupport.com is doing a great job. I haven't investigated this in detail, but there are a number of whois webservice SOAP interfaces out there. I know one would have to depend on these external services (and I have no idea as to theri terms of use), but you could maybe support a couple of these interfaces (shouldn't be too hard) and the user can then choose whether a) he wants to use them at all and if so, then b) pick the appropriate one. They could also be used prioritized so that when the host cannot be resolved by whois#1, then the next interface could be queried, etc.

Just a thought.

Cheers
Andrew

Well, the DNS resolution is done by your local computer. If you have problems you should consider to add some alternative DNS servers to your windows configuration. Windows 2K/XP/NT/2003/Vista allows you to add as many DNS servers as you like. You can find huge DNS server lists on the internet. Hope this helps.
