Questions:
Does Livezilla use cookies?
How long are they active?
What are they used for?
What data is stored on the users machines?

Yes

How long are they active?
You can set the lifetime yourself, you can also fully deactivate cookies in the server configuration (server tab).

The cookies are used to store the login information along with an id to identify the user.
