Or even better options to backup & restore for different stuff:

1) canned resources
2) Visitor logs
3) Archives
4) Messages
5) Ratings
6) Events
7) Reports
8) Filters
9) Reports
10) Backup of operators profiles

Why not creating a backup of your mysql database?

Ive done it in the past, but was a mess when you dont have any experience with mysql

would be a feature to save time i guess for unexperienced users

It's not that easy as these information must remain consistent, you cannot backup/restore just one part of it - you always need to backup the whole thing.

So a MySQL backup is always the best solution and its also the easiest one, just use MySQL Gui Tools / MySQL Administrator - couldn't be easier.
