Ok i am looking to update to the latest version of 3 (3.3.2.2) i have done a clean installation on our test server and am encountering problems with the TEST button during the setup. it generates an error

The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error.

I have already run through the configure permissions section of the website to ensure its working correctly. the server is hosted in our office so its NOT a shared hosting server etc.

If i browse to the url it gives me the correct Livezilla page asking me to setup a server profile or start a demo chat.

any suggestions on this?

We have no idea how you configured your webserver and HTTP 500 stands for everything and nothing, it's just a mask for an internal error which can have different reasons.

I highly recommend to activate error logging (for PHP and in general). If you can provide the internal error which is masked by the 500, we may be able to help.

The webserver is a fairly straight forward windows 2003 standard edition server running PHP as an installation from the PHP site, and is using IIS6 we have other systems on the server (under test) that are working with PHP correctly, if you can give us an indication on how to enable error logging within PHP i can review what if any errors are generated from it and reply to this thread with them.

The IIS link you provided is for a really old version of IIS that is no longer being used and should NOT be used ideally as it was shipped with Windows 2000 that is now no longer supported by Microsoft and is generally seen as a security threat, just incase you were not aware btw, i would suggest updating any links you have saved for version 6 and 7 of IIS.

OK so after further testing and changes to our PHP config i have now managed to get Livezilla to generate the following message rather than the internal server error.

Please be aware the domain name shown is NOT a valid external domain, i have added this into our internal DNS server to make sure this is not a problem with Livezilla where it HAS to have a www. on the domain for the tests or it does not work.

There is nothing being written to the Error log that PHP has created, however if i create a genuine problem with PHP that would normally generate an error then the error log gets data written to it (so i know the error log is working fine)

I am at a loss to what is generating this problem, i am now on my 4th clean installation of Livezilla on our testing system and no closer to a problem.

If i click Yes to the error message above i get a blank window appear, opening that window and viewing the source of the page i get with nothing else shown.

OK so this is an interesting problem and i may have some proof that this is not my server entirly at fault regarding this problem...

So i have a clean and new installation of version 3.3.2.2 and as you can see from my thread its failing with an error that states

The remote server returned an error: (500) internal server error.

So i decided to see if this was a problem with our servers configuration, stopping the software from working, so i took a copy of the Livezilla folder from our LIVE server (completely seperate box) and copied ito this server.. our live server is using version 3.2.0.2 so i uninstalled the server admin from my pc installed the correct server admin for version 3.2.0.2 and did the same Test Server option.

This time it worked Perfectly fine.

So Whilst i would love to belive that the reason version 3.3.2.2 will not run on my server is down to a configuration problem, i am at a loss to explain how the older version that i simply copied from our live system worked straight away.. the only difference is the folder names that livezilla is stored in. there both using the same version of PHP 5.3.x and the folder security and file security is IDENTICAL on both folders.

So been as one works and one doesn't can we please stop trying to attribute the blame to the servers configuration and work out what is going wrong with this version.

The only option if i cannot get this version working is to dump livezilla and go pay for a hosted alternative.

1.) If it would not be related to your server configuration, all other users would have the same problem which is not the case. But I didn't say that your configuration is bad - it seems just to be incompatible. Please keep in mind that there are thousands of settings and it's absolutely impossible to build a complex web application that covers all possible configurations, at least for a small company like us.

2.) We provide regular updates to keep our product in shape and if you would have problems with 4.x I would offer you to track down this issue for you but we don't do offer this service for a freeware version. You clearly stated that you are not willed to pay us for doing our job so there's nothing I can do for you - sorry.

Hi Im not asking that you investigate this problem on my servers or try to fix it for me with some sort of remote access, all i was hoping to get was some reasons or explainations to what is going on during the test process or how it attempts to-do these test processes.

Simply saying that its something to-do with my server configuration is not helpful to me at all even for free forum support, as it does leave as you mentioned literally thousands of setttings it "could" be with no idea where to start.

Its fairly easy to establish that PHP is working at the basic level as the webpage itself is working, what i would like some help with is why the test button refuses to work, what has anoyed me time and time again on this forum is the way the tech guys from livezilla are all very quick to blame it on the persons systems and not the software and wash there hands with the problem.

If you search for the error i am getting on the forum there are a large amount of posts on here from people asking for help with this problem only to have one of the forums IT guys give a simple answer of it being a "complex" problem and they have no where to start with it. some of them even go unanswered, and this has nothing to-do with it being a Paid product or not the software was orignally free and there was little to no help given to people when it was free, this was the first problem i had with the software when i installed it and i also got no help relating to it.

If you would like a reason for why i am unwilling to pay for version 4 its simple, i have seen the level of help provided for users of version 3 when it was the only version provided by livezilla and i have also seen the lack of care for people using the version 3 software now a paid version has turned up and im not willing to pay good money without getting something solid in return i.e. helpful support, a support contract that agrees terms for support of a product.

how about the company that makes livezilla come up with another money spinner called "Support Contract" as if it meant i had yourself or someone else from the tech team provide some dedicated time to this problem for me to find a resolution that could be shared on the forums to help the free users out, i would GLADLY pay for that however this is not an option all i can do is buy version 4 and hope you then give my cases some more time than normal.

heres some examples of this problem that are either unanswered or from my point of view help was just basically brushed off..

I would ask that you escalate this to whoever you have in your office deals with complaints and problems but i feel that this would get no futher regardless.

Hi

I had the smae problem and guessed that it might because of a timeout that may occure an internal server error
the hack is as simple as increasign the apache timeout and restart it or even increasign as high enogh temporary and after the update revert the changes back
there is also FcgidIOTimeout that may need to be increased if you are using fcgid apache handler

Thanks
Woshka
